A Grid Laid Out From True Center
Mismatched coffers are the flaw you notice once and then see forever. We find the true center of the room, check the walls for square, and divide the space so every panel comes out the same size, usually 3 to 5 feet across. Primary beams run perpendicular to the joists. When a room is out of square, the grid follows its long dimension and a perimeter band quietly absorbs the difference.
