Six Sides
Porch Ceilings Detailed to Stay Flat
Boards over a porch live in outdoor air and catch blown rain, so we follow three habits every time. Each board is finished on all six sides, since a bare back is what makes a ceiling cup. A gap under the perimeter trim gives the field room to swell in late summer, and the cavity above stays vented so moisture is not trapped. Finishing boards before they go up also beats brushing a coat on overhead.
