Bedroom furniture goes wrong differently on each side of town. A 1940s Riverside bedroom might be 11 by 12 feet with a swinging closet door, so a queen bed eats most of it. The fix is a lower headboard, nightstands 16 to 18 inches wide instead of the 24 inch standard, and a tall, narrow chest. A Nocatee primary suite is the opposite: ten-foot ceilings make a 48 inch headboard look like it shrank, so we go 60 to 66 inches.

These are starting points, not rules: 24 to 30 inches of walking room beside the bed, a nightstand top within a few inches of the mattress top, and a dresser 32 to 36 inches tall. We tape the footprint on your floor so you can walk it first.

A custom bed frame is the piece people notice first and compromise on most. Stock frames come in only four mattress sizes, and stock heights are set by whatever shipped flat in a box.

We build platform frames with a solid slat deck, low frames with no footboard, four-poster frames, and headboard-only builds that mount to the wall over your existing foundation.

Two questions come first: how tall the mattress and foundation are, since that sets the headboard proportion, and whether you want drawers in the base. If the bed itself is the problem, a custom Murphy bed may be a better answer than a frame.

Custom nightstands solve small, ugly problems a store never sees, like an outlet 14 inches off the floor or window trim that stops the stand two inches short.

We size the width, depth and height to the gap you have, then decide what goes inside: one deep drawer, two shallow ones, a shelf, or a door. A notch around the outlet and a pass-through for charger cords cost almost nothing to build in. They do not have to match, either. If one side has 20 inches and the other has 30, two pieces in the same wood at the right sizes beat a forced pair.

A custom dresser here lives through summers when indoor humidity climbs even in a conditioned house, and solid wood moves across its width with that swing. Cheap case goods dodge the problem with particleboard, which will not hold a screw for twenty years. Solid wood cases handle it through construction.

That is why a big-box drawer swells shut in August and a properly built one does not.

Handmade bedroom furniture gives you what a showroom cannot: a finish sample held against your own floor, in your own light.

White oak is the current favorite and takes a light natural or warm fumed look well. Walnut reads darker and costs more. Maple and poplar sand glass-smooth under paint. Cherry deepens over a couple of years, which not everyone expects.

Matching an existing set is a normal request. We match species, sheen and color as closely as a shop can, and when an old finish has ambered past where new wood starts, we say so and suggest a deliberate contrast instead of a near miss.

We start in the bedroom, measuring the room, the doorways and the stairs, noting outlets and switches, and looking at the pieces you are keeping. Next comes a drawing with real dimensions and a written quote, and you approve the species and finish from samples, not photos.

Then we build. Shop time runs four to ten weeks depending on piece count and our queue, and a deposit of roughly half holds your slot. We deliver finished pieces, level them, and wall-anchor anything tall. Nothing gets assembled on your carpet with a hex key.
