Drawer Glide Repair in Jacksonville, FL

One drawer has gone bad and you are deciding whether it is a ten dollar part or a new kitchen. Drawer glide repair in Jacksonville, FL is one of the smaller cabinet fixes we handle, and it is usually cheaper than expected. Diagnose before you buy, because most people ordering a part online order the wrong length or mount.

Drawer Slide Repair: Diagnosing by Symptom

Pull the drawer out, hold the front and lift gently. Drawer slide repair starts here, not at the parts counter.

Symptom Likely cause Fix
Drops on one side Screw hole stripped in particleboard Dowel the hole, longer screw
Sticks halfway Glides not parallel, cabinet out of square Loosen, re-square, refasten
Front separates from box Box joint failure, not the glide New drawer box

A stripped screw hole causes most drawers that drop on one side, and retightening does nothing because particleboard grips once. The repair is a glued dowel, redrilled, or a longer screw.

Older Jacksonville houses settle, so cabinets set level in 1968 often are not now. A drawer binding at one point has glides out of parallel, a shimming problem rather than a parts problem.

Broken Drawer Glide Types and How to Identify Yours

Pull the drawer out and look at where the hardware sits.

Glide type What you see Load
Bottom mount roller White steel, plastic roller 35 to 75 lb
Side mount ball bearing Steel channels in the opening 75 to 100 lb
Undermount Nothing visible, clips at back 75 to 150 lb

A broken drawer glide in an older home is usually a bottom mount roller, still sold in standard lengths. A wood on wood runner in a 1920s Springfield built-in is not a glide at all, and the fix is wax or a conversion. Undermounts fail in a way that looks worse than it is: the clips at the back of the box break, and cost a few dollars.

Measuring for Drawer Slide Replacement

This is where the wrong part gets ordered. Drawer slide replacement needs three measurements.

Glide length: measure the cabinet member, mounting holes to back end. Glides come in even 2 inch increments, 12 through 24 inches, so 20.5 inches means a 20 inch glide plus a bracket.

Opening width: side mounts need opening minus 1 inch, undermounts minus 42 mm.

Box depth: undermount depth must equal glide length exactly or the clips will not engage. Choose full extension, and buy the pair.

Sticking Drawer Fix: What You Can Do Yourself

Much of a sticking drawer fix takes ten minutes, no parts.

  • Vacuum the track, since grit causes most rough travel.
  • Use a dry lubricant on bearings, not oil.
  • Rub paraffin on wood runners.
  • Tighten every screw; one that spins freely needs the dowel repair.

Stop if the glide is bent or the box corners have opened. Forcing a bent glide straight rarely lasts.

Drawer Track Repair vs a New Drawer Box

Drawer track repair is worth doing when the box is sound. The box is the test, not the hardware.

Condition Verdict
Plywood box, joints tight Replace glides, keep box

Swollen particleboard is the Florida specific one. A leak under a sink or years of humidity swells a side permanently, and no glide runs true on it.

A finished box is not a finished kitchen. We build a new dovetailed box behind your existing front, covered on our custom drawers page. A damaged front is cabinet repair work.

How a Service Call Works

Send a photo of the drawer pulled out showing the hardware, which tells us the glide type and what to bring. We arrive with common glide lengths, screws, dowel stock and shims, because one bad drawer usually has two close behind. Most calls take one visit.

Drawer Glide Repair Cost in Jacksonville

Scope Typical range
Service call, minor repair $145 to $250
Glide pair replaced, per drawer $75 to $160

Glide grade and drawer count move the number, since most of the cost is the visit. These are typical Northeast Florida ranges, not a quote.

Why Jacksonville Homeowners Choose Klein Carpentry

4.8 ★

Rated by 51 Google Reviewers

Klein Carpentry holds a 4.8 star average across 51 Google reviews. Homeowners keep mentioning the same things: fast replies, crews who show up when they say they will, and attention to detail. Humidity

Built for Florida's Climate

Wood gains and loses moisture with the air around it, and the USDA Forest Products Laboratory's Wood Handbook shows how much it swells and shrinks as a result. We plan every drawer glide repair job for that movement: stable sheet goods, acclimated lumber, moisture-resistant material near slabs and wet rooms, and joints with room to move.

3 Heights

Fit to Your Actual Walls

Jacksonville homes range from plaster and concrete block to square new construction. We measure each opening at the floor, mid height and ceiling before building, then scribe the finished work to the wall. Depending on the piece, it is built in our shop and brought in finished or built on site in your home, so the fit stays tight either way.

  • Absolutely recommend! 5 Star experience all around. Pricing was extremely reasonable and fair and the results of the work was spectacular. I had a window frame and siding that needed to be replaced due to water damage. The end result was nothing short of excellent. I will be definitely be using them again going forward and will be letting others know to use them as well.

  • If I could give Klein Carpentry 10 Stars I would. Ray and Nathan are First Class Carpenters and throughout the whole process their attention to detail was beyond our expectations. We had Shiplap installed in our Cafe/Dining Room and Board&Batten throughout the Foyer. Through the start of installation the communication, cleanliness and putting up a plastic wall to exhaust the dust outside was a Plus because going through renovations can be stressful but they made it perfect. We are so impressed that they are coming back to do built-ins on each side of the fireplace. ⭐️⭐️Update Second Review⭐️⭐️ Ray and Nathan has exceeded our expectations again. Just Wow!!! They designed our 10 ft Built Ins here in Marshes of Maderia by Master Craft Homes. We absolutely love the Reeded Door and Drawer Panel design with Lights looks so Sophisticated and Timeless . Now our New Home looks complete ❤️

  • We recently used Klein Carpentry to aid in the renovation of our home. Ray and his team installed new baseboards, wainscotting, window/door trim and crown molding to bring a major update to what was a builder grade interior. From the bidding to the final nail took about two months but the results were worth the wait. During the entire process, Ray was polite and passionate about his work while keeping the working area tidy at all times. I would highly recommend using Kline for any of your carpentry needs, you won't be disappointed!

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my drawer drop on one side?

A mounting screw stripped its hole, letting that side of the glide sag. Retightening will not hold, because particleboard grips once. The hole needs a glued dowel or a larger screw.

Are my old glides still available?

Bottom mount rollers and standard side mounts are. Proprietary brand hardware often is not, and we convert those drawers to standard glides rather than hunt a discontinued part.

My cabinets are from the 1960s and out of square. Is it fixable?

Usually. We shim the mounting so both glides run parallel even though the cabinet is not. It is a common fix in older Arlington kitchens and far cheaper than replacing cabinets.

Can I just buy replacement glides at a hardware store?

Often yes, if you measure right. Match the length in even 2 inch increments, match the mount, and buy a pair. The common mistake is buying a 22 inch glide when the old one measures 20.

Why do drawers stick worse in the summer here?

Humidity. In a Jacksonville August, drawer parts and frames swell slightly, and a drawer that already ran tight binds. Wood on wood runners in older homes are hit hardest.
